Orchestra Season

The Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra enters its fourth year under the direction of Alexander Kahn. Four exciting concerts are planned throughout the year with special guest performers to include:

  • Musicians of the Valley of the Moon 
  • Simply Strings
  • ELM (Enriching Lives Through Music, an el sistema program)
  • Valley Vibes Youth Orchestra
  • Winners of the 3rd annual Orchestra Concerto Competition

Our annual Family Concert in March will feature Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition along with the premiere of the winning entry in our annual Student Composition Competition.

Symphony Orchestra: Back to Bach

Please join us at the Sonoma State University Symphony Orchestra’s season opener, Back to Bach , featuring music by JS Bach and later works from the Romantic period inspired by the composer. The concert opens with Johann Sebastion Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins , featuring the wonderful Aaron Westman and Anna Washburn as soloists. Washburn and Westman will then be joined on stage by violinist Tyler Lewis and cellist Gretchen Claassen to form the Sylvestris String Quarte t , performing works by Brahms and Elgar. Workshop Overview This workshop, led by world-renowned conducting pedagogue Markand Thakar , focuses on developing essential physical control and building musical understanding.
