The Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra enters its fourth year under the direction of Alexander Kahn. Four exciting concerts are planned throughout the year with special guest performers to include:

- Simply Strings
- ELM (Enriching Lives Through Music, an el sistema program)
- Valley Vibes Youth Orchestra
- Winners of the 3rd annual Orchestra Concerto Competition
Our annual Family Concert in March will feature Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition along with the premiere of the winning entry in our annual Student Composition Competition.

The Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2018-19 season in collaboration with Musicians from Valley of the Moon Festival who will open the concert with the Piano Trio in E Major by Franz Josef Haydn. The Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra will be collaborating with four El Sistema-based music education programs: the Santa Rosa Symphony's Simply Strings program, Enriching Lives through Music (ELM) from Marin, Valley Vibes (from Sonoma), and the California Symphony's Sound Minds program. Each of these four wonderful groups will be featured in the first half of the concert. In the second half of the concert the SSU Symphony will take the stage for a performance of Dvorak's riveting New World Symphony. Family Concert: Picture This!
Bring the kids, bring the whole family to this Sunday matinee concert entitled Picture This! starring Modest Mussorgsky's Russian masterpiece, Pictures at an Exhibition in a colorful re-orchestration by French composer Maurice Ravel.
This family-friendly concert will include a multi-media display of artwork created by students from throughout the North Bay.

Fourth Annual Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra Concerto CompetitionPlease join Dr. Alexander Kahn, Director of Orchestral Activities at Sonoma State University, as he and a panel of judges gather to select winners at the 2019 Sonoma State Concerto Competition! Five student performers will perform excerpts from concertos (with piano accompaniment) in front of the panel. The winner, or winners, of the competition will be featured as soloists with the Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra during the 2019-2020 concert season.
